Natural materials are known to show slight changes in tone or texture over time, but with proper care, your Rains boots will stay like new, wear after wear. Remember, these boots are meant to help you explore your environment, whatever the weather. So, every mud stain or watermark is just part of its story.
General care
Rains Footwear is made from natural rubber, which is known to adapt and change depending on its environment. To keep your boots looking like new, wipe them after use, store them somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight or heating, and use the Rains Care Kits regularly. Our care sets have been specifically created for Rains rubber.

Rubber needs conditioning to maintain its smooth, flexible appearance and feel. Too much exposure to heat, UV light or harsh chemicals will cause small cracks to appear in the surface. Don’t worry, there are three simple things you can do to avoid this.
1. Store your boots upright in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight or heat sources (i.e. radiators). Avoid folding or creasing them.
2. Clean off any dirt with after every use. You can wash your boots with water and a mild, household soap and one of our Cleaning Brushes.
3. Use our conditioning Essential Rubber Care every two-to-three months to restore the suppleness of the material. Make sure to dry them with a microfibre cloth before storing them away.
To prevent bleaching or “blooming”
Natural rubber will change color when stored in direct sunlight. Sometimes the colour looks bleached or sometimes a chalky white film can appear across your boots, aka blooming. To prevent this, there are two things you can do.
1. Keep your boots stored somewhere cool, dry and away from any direct UV or heat exposure. Always store your boots upright and uncreased.
2. Use a gentle protectant, such as our Footwear Cleaning Spray or the gently conditioning Essential Rubber Care. Follow the instructions on the packaging to ensure correct use.
